Expedia will join Alexa in 2026.
The way people search for travel and manage their bookings continues to transform. Artificial intelligence is breaking down barriers to help travelers with their planning. This time, it's Amazon's voice assistant, as it has been announced that Expedia will be part of four new companies working to develop artificial intelligence capabilities for Alexa+, the next version of its assistant, which is scheduled to launch in 2026. The company had already unveiled Alexa+ in March, along with partners such as Tripadvisor and Uber.
With the addition of Expedia's lodging inventory, users will be able to ask Alexa+ to offer, compare, book and manage stays at hotels and vacation accommodations globally. The assistant will also allow results to be adjusted based on preferences such as cost, room type and location.
Aside from Expedia, Amazon has announced that Yelp, Angi and Square will also introduce integrations with Alexa+ in 2026, expanding the ecosystem of services linked to the assistant.
"We believe that a truly effective personal assistant should tie into the services that users employ on a daily basis," said Daniel Rausch, vice president of Alexa and Echo. "Each new addition brings Alexa+ closer to having greater control over everyday activities and changes the way users interact, find and book services."
The addition of Expedia to Alexa+ is part of the group's broader strategy to investigate the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence in travel. Also, in November, Google revealed that Expedia would be its partner in the development of future agency-based travel booking capabilities.
Simultaneously, Expedia has strengthened its involvement in the field of generative artificial intelligence. In October, following OpenAI's addition of applications to ChatGPT, Expedia became one of the chosen partners. Also in the same month, the company teamed up with Perplexity to introduce Comet, its AI-powered browser.
