Spain is among the most popular destinations for international tourists in 2026.
According to Holafly's Global eSIM & Travel Report, the top five destinations for international travel in 2026 will be Spain, Italy, France, the United States and Japan. This study highlights Europe as the world's leading travel region for next year, with 49% of global travelers choosing it as their preference.
According to the analysis, these places stand out due to a mix of well-established tourism infrastructure, cultural diversity and an offer of experiences that adapts to new travel trends. "Today, tourists are less attracted by the traditional list of tourist countries and more by what each place can offer them in terms of experiences," says Daniela Prado, brand director at Holafly.
Strengthening domestic tourism in Europe
On the European continent, Spain, Italy and France have established themselves as the top tourist destinations, driven by aspects such as climate, cuisine, cultural heritage and the variety of urban and entertainment options. Germany and Portugal are also gaining visibility by 2026. In addition, it is estimated that two out of every three tourists planning to travel in Europe will be European, highlighting the importance of intraregional tourism.
The profile of tourists coming to Europe next year is quite clear: 29% of them will be in the 35 to 44 age range, while 26% will be between 25 and 34 years old. These age groups tend to mix work occupations with an interest in culture and tend to extend their trips, incorporating modalities such as teleworking during their visits.
North America stands out as a top destination outside Europe. It is estimated that in 2026, 18% of international tourists intend to visit this region. Nearly half of these travelers will be between 35 and 54 years old, a group that tends to spend more and plan their trips further in advance. In terms of origin, 36% of them will be from Europe and approximately 25% from Latin America.
Asia emerged as one of the fastest growing regions, receiving 16.5% of international travel. This percentage rises considerably among individuals under the age of 35, reaffirming Asia as the destination of choice for Generation Z and younger Millennials, who are attracted by the diverse culture, food and local traditions.
The report highlights a notable inclination toward repeat destinations: nearly 60% of travelers plan to return to at least one familiar location by 2025, especially among Europeans and Asians. Generation Z is characterized by high international mobility and a desire for meaningful experiences; Millennials travel the most, which has driven the growth of remote work-related travel; Generation X maintains a consistent frequency of two to three trips per year, focusing on family and wellness; while Boomers prefer extended stays, quieter paces and prioritize safety, mostly within their own region.
Holafly anticipates that by 2026 Europe will be the leading region, while North America and Asia will continue to experience steady growth. In addition, the profile of the traveler will be defined not only by their destination, but by the way they live and relive their experiences.
