Spain, one of the most favorite places for international tourists in 2026.
According to the Holafly Global eSIM & Travel Report, by 2026, Spain, Italy, France, the United States and Japan will be among the top destinations for international travel. The report highlights that Europe will lead as the world's most important tourism region next year, being selected by 49% of travelers worldwide.
According to the research, these places stand out for having well-established tourism infrastructures, a rich cultural heritage and an offer of experiences that are increasingly in line with new travel trends. "Today, tourists are guided less by the traditional list of tourist nations and more by what each place has to offer in terms of experiences," says Daniela Prado, brand director at Holafly.
Tourism within Europe is growing stronger. Spain, Italy and France are establishing themselves as the main attractive destinations, driven by elements such as their climate, delicious gastronomy, rich heritage and attractive urban and entertainment options. Germany and Portugal are also increasing their relevance in the run-up to 2026. Furthermore, two out of every three people planning to visit Europe are resident Europeans, underscoring the importance of intraregional tourism.
The profile of the tourist planning to visit Europe in the coming year is quite distinctive: 29% of them will be in the 35 to 44 age range, while 26% will be between 25 and 34 years old. These age groups tend to combine their job mobility with an interest in culture, leading them to extend their stays and incorporate options such as remote work during their travels.
North America, a prime destination beyond Europe
Outside Europe, North America stands out as one of the most robust regions, with 18% of global tourists planning to visit in 2026. Nearly half of this group is made up of 35-54 year olds, a segment with a high spending power and a tendency to organize their trips in advance. In terms of origin, 36% of travelers will come from Europe, while approximately 25% will be from Latin America.
Asia will be positioned as one of the areas with the greatest increase in tourism, representing 16.5% of international travel. This figure rises considerably among young people under the age of 35, confirming Asia as the destination of choice for Generation Z and young Millennials, who are attracted by its cultural richness, gastronomic offerings and local traditions.
The report indicates that there is a notable inclination among travelers to return to familiar destinations, with nearly 60% of them planning to visit at least one familiar location in 2025, especially in European and Asian groups. Generation Z is characterized by high international mobility and seeks experiences that transform them; Millennials take the most trips, fueling the growth of remote work-related travel; Generation X travels regularly, with between two and three trips per year focused on family and wellness; while Boomers opt for longer stays, more relaxed rhythms and prioritize safety, mostly in their own region.
In summary, Holafly anticipates that the year 2026 will be characterized by the dominance of Europe, a continued advance in North America and Asia, and a traveler who is no longer defined solely by where he travels, but by how he lives and repeats his experiences.
